Pharmacology: Pharmacodynamics: Zinc oxide is applied externally in a cream base as a mild antiseptic and a mild astringent for the skin, as a soothing and protective application in eczema and as a protective for slight excoriations.
Pharmacokinetics: Zinc oxide is used externally and it is not absorbed in to the systemic blood. Acts as a mild astringent that precipitate proteins but have very little permeability that only the surface is affected.
Toxicology: No known toxicological studies on zinc oxide.
